چکیده

PubMed, a repository and search engine for biomedical literature, now indexes more than 1 million articles each year. This exceeds the processing capacity of human domain experts, limiting our ability to truly understand many diseases. We present Reach, a system for automated, large-scale reading of biomedical papers that can extract mechanistic descriptions of biological processes with relatively high precision. We demonstrate that combining the extracted pathway fragments with existing biological data analysis algorithms that rely on curated models helps identify and explain a large number of previously unidentified mutually exclusive altered signaling pathways in seven different cancer types. This work shows that combining curated “big mechanisms” with extracted “big data” can lead to a causal, predictive understanding of cellular processes and unlock downstream applications.

Large-Scale Object Discovery and Detector Adaptation from Unlabeled Video

We explore object discovery and detector adaptation based on unlabeled video sequences captured from a mobile platform. We propose a fully automatic approach for object mining from video which builds upon a generic object tracking approach. By applying this method to three large video datasets from autonomous driving and mobile robotics scenarios, we demonstrate its robustness and generality. B...

I-40: Male Genome Programming, Infertility and Cancer

Background: During male germ cells differentiation, genomewide re-organizations and highly specific programming of the male genome occur. These changes not only include the large-scale meiotic shuffling of genes, taking place in spermatocytes, but also a complete “re-packaging” of the male genome in post meiotic cells, leading to a highly compacted nucleo-protamine structure in the mature sperm...

A new memetic algorithm for mitigating tandem automated guided vehicle system partitioning problem

Automated Guided Vehicle System (AGVS) provides the flexibility and automation demanded by Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). However, with the growing concern on responsible management of resource use, it is crucial to manage these vehicles in an efficient way in order reduces travel time and controls conflicts and congestions. This paper presents the development process of a new Memetic Alg...

A Use-Case-Driven Study in Germany

3 Preface Autonomous driving has become a hot topic in the last few years – not only in Germany, but around the globe. In 2012, the world's largest conference on transport research and development, the Transport Research Board Annual Meeting, which takes place every January in Washington, put the topic under the spotlight for the first time with its own seminar entitled " Ready for Automated Dr...
